Catching Up

Wow! So I just realized that I haven't blogged since July 4th! Yikes! So here are highlights from then until now--
First comes our only family vacation of the summer. Since my wrist has thrown a major wrench into our home life, we were thrilled to be able to get away together for a few days at the end of July. We went to Michigan to my Aunt Judy's cabin . The weather wasn't great, but we had such a good time together.
The first afternoon we were there was the only day we could get in the water. Kyle couldn't wait to ride the "four wheelers" (wave runners).
The last day Madeline was brave enough to go out on the wave runner with Greg. It was at least not raining, but so cold she had to wear a jacket under her life vest.

Since the weather was crummy, we went shopping one day while the guys were golfing. Madeline saw this princess dress and "had" to have it. Of course, Aunt Judy thought she "had" to have it too! ;o)

All of us at dinner one night. As my sister pointed out to me, our camera is in desperate need of replacing, so the quality isn't real good. Kyle, Greg, Madeline, Lori, Uncle Steve, Aunt Suzy, Aunt Judy, Dad, Mom--

One of the kids' favorite things to do lately is play baseball in the front yard. They can't get enough of it. Since Kyle insists on wearing his helmet for everything we do outside, he's all set to be the batter!

My wrist nonsense also affected Madeline's ability to do any summer programs. Fortunately we were able to find a swim class in August to squeeze it in at the end of the summer. This is Madeline with her aide, Miss Maria. Madeline loved her! She had a really good time at swim lessons!

Mid-August our little town of Warrenville has Sumer Daze. It is a great event where they have a car and motorcycle show, activities for the kids, food, live musice, etc. The night before, though, it rained and that scared away a lot of the cars, but there were still plenty to look at and lots of fun crafts and activities for the kids. My mom was able to come with us and my sister met us later. It was a fun day. Here is Madeline with my mom by the car that matched her shirt. She thought that was so cool!

Greg trying to be funny--

Kyle LOVES motorcycles, so he had a very hard time with the "look, don't touch" rule when it came time to look at them.

Kyle in the kid's tent "listening" to a shell. He held each one up to his cheek. Didn't quite get the concept....

Not many days this summer were very hot (which is just fine with me!) but occassionally we were able to get out in the sprinkler. Kyle has come a long way from last summer, but will still hold his head to try and cover it from the sprinkler water. At least he doesn't scream and cry anymore.

August 17th was my parents' 35th wedding anniversary. We were able to have a little party at our house for them. It was really fun and a great testiment to a great couple's commitment to each other.

This summer Kyle had his first ER visit (for something other than breathing issues). We were at a sprinkler park with friends when he toussled with a picnic table and the picnic table won. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but he ended up with cuts outside and inside his bottom lip and a big hole in the middle of his tongue. This picture is about 4 days after it happened and it is about 1/3 the size that it was originally. Fortunately they didnt' have to stitch it, just told us the signs of infection and how to keep it clean while it healed. Gross!

For the end of summer, we took the kids downtown Chicago to Lincoln Park Zoo on the Saturday before school started. It was a great day and so fun to spend it together as a family.

Kyle's great view

For the last hour or so we were there, our friends joined us. Their middle child, Will, is a buddy of Madeline. They have been in the same class at church and are now in the same Kindergarten class. They are both very adventurous, so this picture of them up on a rock is very appropriate!

Well, I think you can all consider yourself caught up. You can maybe see why August was a "no blog" month! Now on to pictures of the first day of school!
